Dear wonderful patients,

It is with great sadness that I am writing to you to announce the upcoming closure of the Walpole Street Dental Practice and what that means for you, our patients.

As I have relayed to you all in our Newsletters, I was diagnosed with a blood cancer in November 2023. I feel incredibly lucky to have been accepted for a bone marrow transplant, which I undertook last summer. The recovery has been more complicated than we expected, and whilst I am thrilled to be cancer free, I will not be able to return to dentistry.

Dentistry was not just a job for me; it has been an intellectual pursuit that has led me to lecture all over the world, and I’m so proud to have trained many of the top dental implantologists through my training courses. However, what I have always loved most has been working for you, our patients. Some of you have been with the practice since we opened, over 40 years ago. Many of you have turned to us in a time of need, having been referred by another dentist. It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve you all, and I will miss it terribly.

Now, what does this mean for you:

The practice will close on 31st December 2025. We still have dentists and hygienists working until then, so please do book in for a final appointment over the coming weeks.

Changing dentists is never easy, and we have been searching for the perfect home for our patients: we are thrilled to introduce you to PortmanDentex, in Marylebone. PortmanDentex offers comprehensive dental care, ensuring that all of our patients are in safe hands and receive the highest standard of treatment.

Dr Richard Horwitz (Specialist in Periodontics) and the team at PerioLondon (4 Queen Anne Street) will be able to look after your periodontal, implant and hygiene needs. Dr Horwitz started his implant journey many years ago under my tutelage.

For all aspects of general dentistry and prosthodontics (including more complex implant prosthetics (bridges etc.)), Dr Horwitz works with Dr Naureen Rizvi, Specialist in Prosthodontics (90 Harley Street). Both neighbouring practices host a range of different specialists in a variety of fields to be able to help with your dental needs.

Ultimately, your new practice will strive to ensure that all patients receive the most appropriate care, tailored to their specific needs.

We will transfer all your digital dental records to PortmanDentex on closure, to ensure the smoothest possible journey for you when booking future appointments.

If you would like us to transfer your records to another dentist, please do contact us before December 31st 2025, or contact PortmanDentex on reception.periolondon@portmandental.co.uk after that date.

For any patients currently undergoing treatments with one of our associate dentists: the treatment will either be completed before the practice closes, or the dentist who is undertaking the work will be available to continue the treatment out of a different practice and will agree this with you before the practice closes.

If you wish to raise a concern or complaint about any aspect of the dental care you have received at this practice, you may do so even after the practice has closed. Until 31st December 2025, you can contact us directly at reception@walpolestreetdental.com. After that date, you can submit to PortmanDentex’s complaints team via email to Complaints@portmandental.com or contact the Dental Complaints Service (DCS) on 0208 253 0800.

A vote of thanks

I will miss dentistry dearly, but what I will miss most is the people. The team that we have at The Walpole Street Practice, are the nicest, most professional and wonderful people. It has been a true privilege to work with them – some of them for many decades – and their loyalty and support has meant everything to me throughout my career. Of course, the reason we all come to work is to support you, our patients. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for entrusting us with your care; it has been my great pleasure treating you and have developed many wonderful, lifelong friendships: I will miss you all dearly.
